Program Description
Event Details
We all know about the Sun and the eight planets of our Solar System, but have you heard about the Asteroid Belt? NASA Solar System Ambassador Dan Hoy will tell us about the band of rocky objects in the region between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter known as the Asteroid Belt, and what happens when some of the objects get jostled out of their orbits and crash to Earth! We will learn about meteors, meteorites, and the circular structures they leave on our surfaces as they strike - craters!
Participants will make their own craters using salt dough and coarse salt (note: air-dry clay can be available for participants with gluten allergies). See, touch, and hold real rocks from space!
Target age: Families with kids ages 5+ | Limited Supplies, Registration Required
